Do Everything at Once with Deo
Be honest: how much of your week disappears into the setup? Not the teaching — the building. Writing the reading passage, drafting the comprehension questions, picking the right grammar points for the quiz, getting it all into the right class, posting it where your students will find it. None of that is the hard, human part of the job, and yet it eats your evenings. v3.0.0 introduces Deo, an assistant that lives inside Lingua and does that building for you — just by talking to it. You say what you want in plain language, and Deo makes it.
Meet Deo
Deo is the rose-gold chat button tucked into the corner of your screen, and on your sidebar, and in your account menu — wherever you happen to be when an idea strikes. Open it and you get a little conversation window. That's the whole interface. There's nothing to learn, no menu of options to memorize, no form to fill out. You type the way you'd ask a colleague across the hall, and Deo gets to work.
The name says it: Do Everything at Once. The whole point is that the dozen little steps that normally stand between "I have an idea" and "it's assigned to my class" collapse into a single sentence.
Building Assignments by Asking
This is the heart of it. Tell Deo "make a reading on the Day of the Dead for my Spanish 2 class" and it writes the passage, drafts the comprehension questions, sets it up in that course, and tells you when it's ready. Every kind of assignment you already build by hand, Deo can build by conversation:
Reading and listening — full passages or natural-sounding audio, with comprehension questions attached. Writing — a prompt your students respond to, ready for instant feedback. Oral assignments — speaking tasks for presentation or conversation practice. Chat and voice chat — one-on-one conversations in the target language, including custom personas if you want your students talking to a chef in Oaxaca or a guide in ancient Rome. And skill quizzes — both vocabulary and grammar.
It speaks your class's language — literally
Deo always builds in the language of the course you're working in. Ask for a reading in your French class and you get French — you never have to spell that out. And you don't have to hand it topics, either; if you don't have one in mind, Deo picks something appropriate and runs with it.
It Knows Your Classes
You don't have to keep reminding Deo where you are. If you've just been working in one course, it assumes that's the one you mean and keeps going. When it genuinely can't tell — say you open a brand-new conversation and just ask for "a listening assignment" with no class in sight — it stops and asks which course, rather than guessing and dropping it somewhere random. It errs toward checking with you when it matters, and toward getting out of your way when it doesn't.
Quizzes That Use Your Actual Curriculum
Grammar quizzes are a place where a generic assistant would go off the rails — inventing grammar points your students haven't met yet, or phrasing concepts in ways that don't match how you teach them. Deo doesn't do that. For grammar quizzes it draws only from the grammar concepts that belong to that language in Lingua, so the quiz stays inside the lines of what your students are actually learning.
For vocabulary quizzes, Deo mixes the questions up rather than marching straight down your word list in order — so a sharp student can't coast on "the answer is always the next word." Small thing, but it's the difference between a quiz that tests memory and one that tests pattern-matching.
Editing Is Just More Conversation
Building something is only half of it — most of the fiddling happens after. Deo edits everything it can create, and it does it the same way: you ask. "Set the time limit to ten minutes." "Make the second question harder." "Change the due date." "Add two more questions to that passage." It adjusts the settings, the questions, the wording — whatever you point it at.
For readings and listenings, it goes deeper than tweaks. You can have Deo add a whole new passage or audio clip to an assignment, remove one you don't want, rename them, and add or pull individual questions. It keeps things sensible while it does — every passage and audio always keeps at least one question, and it won't leave you with an empty shell. If you try to remove the very last passage in an assignment, it'll point out that what you probably want is to delete the whole assignment, and offer to do that instead.
It can read before it writes
Deo can open up any assignment and look at what's actually inside it. So you can ask "what was that third question again?" or "remind me how long this quiz is" and get a real answer — and it edits with the full picture in front of it, not in the dark.
Copying, Resetting, Deleting
Taught the same unit to three sections? Ask Deo to duplicate an assignment into your other classes and it handles the copies. It's careful about one thing in particular: it won't copy an assignment into a course of a different language, because a Spanish reading has no business landing in your German class. Different year or level is fine — that's just teaching the same idea to a different group — but it draws the line at the language itself.
You can also have it reset an assignment or delete one outright. And when you're changing something that exists in several copies across your sections, Deo checks whether you want the change to apply to just this one or all of them — but only when there actually are multiple copies. No pointless "apply to all?" when there's only one.
Sharing to LinguaVerse
If you've made something you're proud of, Deo can put it up on LinguaVerse — our shared library of teacher-made assignments — for you. Just ask. It can also update a listing you've already posted, or take one down. You can give it a few tags to help other teachers find your work, and if you don't bother, it'll list it under the same name with none. The whole publish-and-share loop, handled in a sentence.
Posting Straight to Canvas
If your school runs on Canvas and you've already connected it, Deo can link an assignment over to Canvas as part of building it — so the thing you just made by talking shows up in the gradebook your school actually checks, without you opening a single extra tab. (Deo will only ever link things up if your Canvas connection is already in place; it stays well away from your account details.)
You Stay in Control
A few things make Deo comfortable to actually rely on. Before anything significant, it shows you a clear card describing what it's about to do, and waits for your okay — nothing big happens behind your back. While it's working on something longer, like writing a passage, you get a progress indicator so you're never staring at a frozen screen wondering if it's alive. And there's a stop button right where the send button usually sits: if you change your mind mid-task, you can call it off, and Deo is built so that stopping never leaves a half-made mess behind. It either finishes the job or it never started — never something broken in between.
Works the way you do
Deo lives on every page, on your phone as well as your laptop, and you can pop it open or tuck it away whenever you like. It's there when you need it and invisible when you don't.
